In addition to private on-site training, we host more than 150 in-person Food Manager training classes each year throughout Florida and the Southeast, allowing hospitality managers to attend a scheduled class near them. These ServSafe Food Manager certification classes typically last about four hours and conclude with an in-person proctored computer-based exam, with immediate results and a certification valid for five years.
For those who have already completed the Food Handler training and certification or Food Safety Manager certification training and need to renew, those who cannot travel to an in-person training, or those simply wanting the convenience of an online Food Handler or Food Manager certification course, we provide online sessions with self-paced, interactive learning. These can be taken from anywhere in the United States. We offer the remotely proctored Food Manager exam so participants can immediately receive their ServSafe certificate upon passing the 90-question multiple-choice exam.
Serve It Up Safe also provides other hospitality industry training and certifications for topics like Human Trafficking Prevention, Sexual Harassment Awareness, Customer Service, on-site sanitation inspections, and Allergen Awareness training.

Not sure what your state requires? Check your state’s requirements
It depends on your state and the type of establishment you operate. Most states require at least one Certified Food Protection Manager (CPFM) on-premise, and many require food handler training for all staff involved in food preparation or service. Alcohol service training requirements vary by state – in Florida, the Responsible Vendor Act (RVA) program is voluntary but provides legal protections that most operators find worth having. Florida lodging establishments are also required to provide Human Trafficking Prevention training to employees. For a detailed breakdown of what your state requires, visit our State Requirements page.

These are two separate credentials with different purposes. Food Handler training is for all frontline staff involved in food preparation or service – it’s a shorter course (about 1–1.5 hours) that covers safe food handling practices and typically does not include a proctored exam. Food Manager certification (also known as CPFM or Certified Food Protection Manager) is an exam-based credential for managers, chefs, owners, and shift leads. It requires passing a proctored 90-question exam and is valid for 5 years. Most states require at least one certified Food Manager on-premise at all times. See our Food Manager and Food Handler pages for full details on each program.
